OUR STORY

The Horse Stable…

In June 1981, Douglas Poole graduated from seminary one Sunday and the very next weekend he and his wife Jacque joined up with a couple dozen other dreamers in a horse stable that had been flipped to a church. They had a dream of building a community of faith, hope and love that would reach spiritual seekers and build believers. A place people could call their “home” and understand that they are worthy of love and belonging. And that dream had taken root in their soul. They had no idea what God was going to do…they only knew God’s heart for people and they wanted to be a part of whatever He was up to in this world.

The Adventure Begins…

The church quickly outgrew the confines of the stable and over the years it has undergone four projects of additions. In 1990, a separate and new auditorium was constructed and then remodeled in 2016 to double seating capacity. Today more than 700 people call Cypress their church home and worship at one of its multiple services.

And Beyond…

God has taken Cypress on quite a ride since those early days. And throughout the past 36 plus years, Douglas and the Elders of Cypress never lost sight of that original vision of being a community of faith, hope and love for everyone…regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We have sought God and His grace together; we have built a school in Haiti and an orphanage in Kenya together; we have laughed and cried together; prayed and worshiped together; and shaped the future for the better together.

Through it all, God has remained faithful…and we believe the best is yet to come!

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe…

The Bible
The sole basis of our belief is the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe Scripture in its entirety originated with God and He revealed it to chosen authors. We hold that the Scriptures in their original manuscripts are infallible and inerrant. They are the unique, full, and final authority on all matter of faith and practice. There are no other writings similarly inspired by God.

God
We believe there is one true, holy God, eternally existing in three equal persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God demonstrated His power, wisdom, and goodness by creating the world and everything in it. Through His divine power and providence, God continues to sustain His creation, operating within history to fulfill His redemptive purposes.

Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is true God and true human. He is the second person of the Trinity, was fully united with a human nature by a miraculous conception and virgin birth. He lived in perfect obedience to the Father, voluntarily paid the price for the sins of all people by dying on the cross as their substitute, and satisfied divine justice bringing salvation to all who trust in Him alone. After His physical death, Jesus Christ arose from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father as the only intercessor between God and humans. He promises to return to earth, personally and visibly, to fulfill history and the eternal plan of God.

The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, sent by the Father and the Son to indwell, fill, guide, teach, gift for service, empower to lead a life of Christ-like character, and assure the believer upon salvation. The Holy Spirit will convince the world of sin, righteousness and judgement.

Salvation
Humans were originally created in the image of God to be in relationship with Him, however humans defied Him by going their own separate way, resulting in alienation from Him and the innate inability to please God. This fall took place at the beginning of human history and since then all people have suffered these consequences and are in need of the saving grace of God.
The salvation of humanity is completely a work of God’s free grace and is not in any way the result of human works or goodness. Everyone who repents and believes receives salvation, the possibility of a full life today and the promise of life eternal.

Human Destiny
Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. All humanity will experience a bodily resurrection and a judgment that will determine the fate of each individual. Believers will be received into eternal communion with God. Unbelievers, having rejected God, will suffer the condemnation of eternal separation apart from Him.

The Church
The church consists of all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, thus being united with Him as members of His body, the one true church of which He is the Head. The local church is to gather for worship, prayer, the teaching of scripture, the proclamation of the gospel of grace, mutual edifications and the observances of baptism and communion. The church is to be cared for and led by Elders and its members are to work together in love and unity for the ultimate purpose of glorying Christ.
